Scary Music for Organ Returns

St. George’s Episcopal Church will host an evening of Scary Music for Organ on Saturday, October 30 at 7:30 pm. This crowd favorite concert will include Bach’s Toccata in D Minor, music from the 1984 Dune soundtrack by Toto, works by Sowerby, Reger, Langlais, Buxtehude and more for an unforgettable evening of music.

Come in costume for a frightful and delightful evening of music!

Located at 905 Princess Anne Street in historic downtown Fredericksburg, Virginia, St. George’s Episcopal Church offers a wide range of concerts throughout the year featuring local and out of town musicians. The nave’s lush acoustics provide the perfect backdrop for “beautiful music in a beautiful space”.

The concert is free with donations accepted at the door. Masks are required for all visitors – vaccinated or unvaccinated – over the age of 2. St. George’s Episcopal Church will host a virtual concert via Facebook of Scary Music for Organ on Friday, October 30 at 7:30 pm. This crowd favorite concert will include several works by J. S. Bach, including Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, Fantasia in G minor and Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor, along with pieces by Johann Pachelbel, Max Reger, and Olivier Messiaen.

The concert is free with donations gladly accepted.

St. George’s Offers Haiti Benefit Concerts on New Year’s Eve

St. George’s Episcopal Church will offer New Year’s Eve Concerts to benefit the Notre Dame Parish and School in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The evening begins with an organ concert by the organists of St. George’s at 8:30 pm, followed by the best in jazz, funk, and Latin jazz with St. George’s Jazz Ensemble at 10 pm.

Admission is free with donations accepted at the door. All proceeds help support the 383 schoolchildren of the Notre Dame Parish and School with food, clothing, supplies, and medical care.

St. George’s Episcopal Church will host an evening of Scary Music for Organ on Saturday, October 26 at 7:30 p.m. This crowd favorite concert will include Bach’s Toccata in D Minor, music from “The Day the Earth Stood Still” arranged for organ and Theremin, “Mars” from Holst’s The Planets, “The Shape of Things to Come” from Battlestar Galactica and more for an out-of-this world evening of music.

Scary Music for Organ – A Spooktacular Treat!

This year’s Scary Music for Organ didn’t disappoint. Our organists performed spooky pieces of music that left our audience spellbound. We even had an appearance from Darth Vicar!

Trystan Bennett, Director of St. George’s Compline Choir and Director of Music at Aquia Episcopal Church, opened the concert. He played Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor, Prélude sur le Dies Irae by Dethier, and music from “Der Vampyr” by Marschner.

Brooks Kuykendall, parishioner at St. George’s and chair of the Music Department at the University of Mary Washington, performed next. His program included Sonata in D minor, Op. 42 by Guilmant, Ich steh mit einem Fuss im Grabe by Bach, and an original work – the Main Title March for Captain Vegetarian. Kuykendall wrote this piece in honor of his son’s superhero identity – Captain Vegetarian.

St. George’s Assistant Director of Music, Achim Loch, continued the concert with Bach’s Prelude and Fugue in C Minor. He then closed with his own arrangement of themes from The Lord of the Rings, with Cadence Moneyhon accompanying on flute.

John Vreelance, the Director of Music Ministries at St. George’s, closed the program with a truly bombastic piece – Max Reger’s Symphonic Fantasy, Op. 57 – The Inferno.
