Parish Picnic at Hurkamp Park – May 31

You are invited to our annual Parish Picnic at Hurkamp Park on Sunday, May 31.  Our 10 am worship service will take place outdoors at Hurkamp Park ( at the corner of George and Prince Edward Streets), followed by our annual Parish Picnic.  We are relying on most people to bring their own chairs or blankets to sit on! Our Fellowship commission will provide a few canopies for shade and a few chairs if you forget. If you are able, please bring a potluck dish to share at the picnic and your own utensils/plates/napkins. Our fellowship team will provide drinks and fried chicken for all and some paper products will be available. Please note this service will not be livestreamed.

St. George’s Kitchen Renovation Update

During the 9 am Adult Forum on Sunday, May 3, our Vestry leaders will give an update on plans to renovate the Sydnor Hall kitchen which suffered catastrophic water damage due to a burst pipe in January. The wooden floor on the small side of Sydnor also sustained significant damage. This will be an important opportunity to hear what the Vestry is considering and ask questions. We will make the meeting available via Zoom and record it so that it can be shared later.

St. George’s Celebrates the Faulkners – May 3

When: Sunday May 3, 2 – 4 pm

Where: St. George’s Nave with Reception to Follow in Faulkner Hall

The 27th Rector of St. George’s, the Rev. Joe Hensley, invites you to celebrate the legacy of the 24th Rector, the Rev. Tom Faulkner and his wife, Mary, who served St. George’s for 30+ years and made an especially big impact on young people all over Fredericksburg.

Their daughter, Ann Faulkner Ridgeway, will share some memories of her parents and reflections on their values which have been passed on to future generations.

The Rev. Charles Sydnor, who served as Associate Rector with Rev. Faulkner and succeeded him as Rector, will discuss his experiences working with the Faulkners.

Our St. George’s History Committee will offer some historic context. There will be an opportunity for questions and comments after our speakers.

A reception follows with a blessing of newly restored Faulkner Hall, part of our Open to All in Love capital project.

We hope you can join us for the time of celebration, reflection, and fellowship.

Parish Prayer Partners in Easter (3P in E):

It is time for another season of praying with and for one another. Sign up to be a prayer partner for another St. Georgian from April 26-May 24. You will receive the name of another person or household to pray for in secret. Someone else will pray for you or your household. The partners will be revealed at the end of the season. You will receive regular reminders to pray and encouragement from clergy. Contact the church office office@stgeorgesepiscopal.net to sign up by April 20.

It’s not too late to join a Small Group! Small groups are simply opportunities for our members to share a meal and conversation with fellow St. Georgians! Topics of conversation will be decided within each group during the first few meetings. It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet new people or to get to know each other better. The groups will meet once a week for six weeks.

  • Group 1 (Blanton Massey): Meets Thursdays at 5:30 pm from 4/16-5/21 near Kenmore Park, three steps to enter house, easy parking
  • Group 2 (Mary Jane O’Neill): Meets Tuesdays at noon from 4/14-5/19 on Kenmore Avenue near Union Bank, no steps and ample parking
  • Group 3 (Vicki and Jim Lewis): Meets Sundays at 5pm from 4/12 or 4/19 near Cosner’s Corner, two steps with railings on both sides, ample parking
  • Group 4 (Susan Harrison): Meets Fridays at 5:30pm in Celebrate Virginia neighborhood, three steps into house, easy parking, dog in home
  • Group 5 (Cathy and Bob Powers): Meets Wednesdays at 5pm beginning 4/15, five minutes from downtown Fredericksburg, five steps into house with railing, ample parking, friendly dogs in another room
  • Group 6 (Juliann and Matt Jones): Meets Mondays at 6pm, children welcome, close to downtown, a few steps into house, street parking, one dog
