Summer Pop Culture Sermon Series

June 22, 2026 by Stephanie Dolezal Leave a Comment

Starting on June 28 we will begin our Pop Culture Sermon Series. Sunday mornings will include references to popular movies over the years. Each preacher has selected a movie that goes with their sermon, and then on the following Tuesday we will screen the movie in Sydnor Hall. (More on this below).

The movies that will be discussed are:

  • June 28 – To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar (PG-13)
  • July 5 – Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (G)
  • July 12 – Contact (PG)
  • July 19 – Toy Story (G)

Summer Movie Nights at St. George’s
On Tuesdays, June 30 through July 21 we will be holding a movie screening of the movie from our Pop Culture series. Join us in Sydnor Hall. The movies will begin promptly at 6:30, and popcorn will be provided. Feel free to bring dinner if that helps save time, and if you want, a blanket or sleeping bag to stretch out on the floor. See the list above for the ratings for each of the movies. We hope that you will join us. There will be a nursery provided for our younger children for all of the nights.

Juneteenth Celebration- June 19th 2026, 12-5pm, Market Square

June 3, 2026 by Stephanie Dolezal Leave a Comment

Long before it was a federal holiday, people of faith celebrated the emancipatory joy of Juneteenth. The earliest known commemorations of the day were church-centered celebrations in Texas dating back to 1866. Today, we join with people, past and present, who seek freedom for all people, rooted in community and love. Please consider joining St George’s and other community partners in Market Square from 12-5pm on Juneteenth to celebrate, listen, and build beloved community! If you cannot attend, but would still like to participate, you can help us provide hospitality by donating prepackaged snacks or beverages to the church office. Contact Jake DeNap with questions!

Open to All in Love: Construction Update

June 1, 2026 by Stephanie Dolezal Leave a Comment

Phase II is underway! Our stonemasons have returned to move some more stones in our graveyard. After careful consideration of the equipment needed for building the retaining wall and columbarium, Daniel & Co requested we move additional stones to ensure they are kept safe. The stonemason’s work should wrap up Sunday or Monday.

Virginia Masonry has already been on site working on the three sets of stairs at our main church entrance. They are cleaning and taking care of some routine maintenance.

The big news: scaffolding is scheduled to go up on June 1! The first part of the work will include removing the paint of the church wall along the graveyard, repointing brick as needed, and then applying the same protective coating used on Faulkner Hall. They will also address the window glazing (Sydnor Hall level) and restore the stained glass window casements on that wall. Additionally, Daniel & Co. will be restoring the louvers of the bell tower. They estimate this portion of the work will take around three months. After that, they will begin pouring the foundation for the columbarium.

Many thanks for your continued support – it wouldn’t be possible without you.

Laurel E. Loch, Chief of Staff and Open to All in Love Project Manager

Feast of the Ascension with Trinity- Thursday, May 14 at 6:30 pm

May 11, 2026 by Stephanie Dolezal Leave a Comment

St. George’s will celebrate the feast of the Ascension with our Episcopal siblings at Trinity on Thursday, May 14 at 6:30 pm. The service will be hosted by Trinity Episcopal Church located at 825 College Ave, Fredericksburg, VA 22401.

We will be gathering at Trinity Episcopal in their outdoor labyrinth to celebrate the Ascension. This prayer service will include readings, hymns, and a short homily from Father Rock. Please bring a chair if you want one. It will close with an opportunity to depart through the labyrinth or do an alternative closing activity. It will be an encouraging and reflective time on the last commissioning of Jesus before going to the “right hand of the Father.” If there is rain, we will gather in their parish hall. We hope to see you there!
