St. George’s Missional Identity, Purpose, and Values

“This Church is Open to All in Love”

As approved by our Vestry on April 29, 2026

Missional Identity

St. George’s is an Episcopal Church, part of an ancient Christian tradition living in a contemporary context. We are a parish of disciples who seek to connect with people where they are. We are engaged with our community as a place where, with God’s help, we share our love of Jesus Christ and his mission of justice, reconciliation, and hope.

Missional Purpose

Serving the Reign of God as followers of Jesus Christ by

  • nourishing people in mind, body, and spirit
  • sharing a beautiful variety of worship and music to glorify God and connect in communion
  • supporting people in all stages of life while fostering deep friendships
  • welcoming and loving our neighbors
  • encouraging seekers to know the unconditional love of God in Christ.

Missional Values

  • We ground ourselves in Holy Scripture and prayer and are curious about God, faith, and each other.
  • We invite our church family to embrace generosity as a lifelong, joyful, and transforming response to God’s call to us.
  • We practice hospitality, especially by welcoming and including those who have been told they do not belong.
  • We are honest about our history, celebrating the gifts of our past, and addressing its wounds as we minister in the present.
  • We work toward healing of mind, body, and spirit, understanding the pain people may bring associated with prior religious experience.
  • We seek justice but not judgment, respecting the dignity of every human being.
  • We care for everyone, because Jesus told us to love one another as he loves us.
