Special Award to St. George’s

We are pleased to announce that St. George’s has received the 2026 Michael Allen Hoffman Award for “significant contributions to historic preservation in the Commonwealth of Virginia.” The Council of Virginia Archaeologists (CoVA) recognized St. George’s for the archaeological work conducted as part of our Open to All in Love construction project. Our project partners at Mead & Hunt nominated us for this prestigious honor.

In their nomination, they wrote:

“This nomination is to honor and highlight the incredible work that has been sponsored by St. George’s as they seek to learn more about their property and understand their extremely long and rich role in Fredericksburg’s past.”

Our Open to All in Love Project Manager, Laurel Loch attended the CoVA awards banquet to accept the award on St. George’s behalf. Many of the professional archaeologists attending expressed their enthusiasm for our project and expressed gratitude for our commitment and support of archaeology. Thank you, St. Georgians for your generous support of this project and for helping uncover and share our history with others.

Scary Music for Organ Concert – Friday, Oct. 30, 7:30 pm

St. George’s will offer a free concert of Scary Music for Organ on Friday, Oct. 30 at 7:30 pm, featuring The Organists of St. George’s (Trystan Bennett, Brooks Kuykendall, Achim Loch, and Lucy Monte).
Our most popular annual concert includes haunting renditions of works by J.S. Bach, Beaumont, Chaminade, Elfman, Gounod, Guilmant, Langlais, Mendelssohn, Messiaen, Mozart, and others. The evening will be sure to be terrifyingly delightful and monstrously entertaining. Feel free to come in costume!
The concert is free with donations to the organ fund accepted at the door.
Known for its lush acoustics and welcoming atmosphere, St. George’s offers a year-round concert series showcasing both local and nationally recognized artists. This performance promises an afternoon of “beautiful music in a beautiful space,” continuing the church’s tradition of musical excellence. Admission is free, with donations gratefully accepted at the door to support our music and ministry at St. George’s.

St. George’s 2026 Parish Weekend is This Weekend!

This weekend, October 9 – 11, a group of parishioners will travel to Orkney Springs, VA for our annual St. George’s Parish Weekend at Shrine Mont.  Shrine Mont is a place where people are more important than things; where prayer and reflection, rest and recreation are more important than appointments and tasks. Shrine Mont is where we connect as a community and finally have some time to meet each other, laugh together, and share stories of difficult commutes and…set life down for a while. Shrine Mont is a place where kids play out in God’s own creation and we all give thanks for streams and flowers and ponds full of fish. Shrine Mont is marshmallows and memories – a place where we celebrate being part of the family of God.  Our theme this year is “Live as Children of the Light.” It can seem as though the times we live in are especially dark. We will explore what it means to be a Child of the Light, and in particular how we can live into that calling and bring light to our world.  Everyone has a story to tell, and we build stronger community by listening to each other’s stories.  All programming this year will have ample opportunities to tell and listen to each other’s stories.We will also provide special activities on Saturday morning for youth and teens to reconnect with their friends. On-site activities may include a nature hike, yoga, creative art, and games  Our planned afternoon activities include Crafternoon hosted by The House, with free art activities to bring out your creativity and conversations with friends, old and new. There will also be a Hymn Sing, so start thinking about your favorite hymns with 4-part harmony!

The Shrine Mont facility is owned and operated by the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia. Lodging is in a quaint, old hotel and nearby cottages, all with private baths. Meals are served in the large dining room of Virginia House, the main conference facility. Tips are appreciated by the dining room staff. Shrine Mont welcomes your favorite beverages.  Shrine Mont has something for everyone – unless you are looking for a TV! Activities include fishing, hiking, porch sitting, sleeping, playing music with friends, crafts, reading, playing bridge, games, and wading in the lake.  Questions or more info? For those of us staying behind, please note that our former Interim Associate Rector, the Rev. Rock Higgins, will be back at St. George’s this Sunday, October 11 as guest preacher and celebrant for the 8 and 10 am services!

There will be no Sunday School or Adult Formation this Sunday, October 11 due to a large portion of our congregants gathering at Shrine Mont.  We will resume formation groups (Sunday School and adult formation) on October 18.

 

 

Hispanic Heritage Month Observance – Special Coffee Hour This Sunday

Hispanic and Latina/o/x Heritage Month is September 15-October 15. As we celebrate the variety of cultural heritages at St. George’s, we will include some Spanish language prayers and hymns in our Sunday worship over the next few weeks.

Join us this Sunday, October 4, after the 10 am service as we have a special potluck coffee hour featuring foods and stories that some of our members will bring from their cultures.

Campus Ministry St. Francis Pet Blessing + Open House – October 4

You’re invited to attend a St. Francis Pet Blessing + Open House with our UMW campus ministries (The House + The CCC in partnership) on Sunday, October 4th from 2-4 pm. Stop by The House at 820 College Ave and bring a pet, a picture of a pet, or a stuffed animal to be blessed by one of our pastors. You can also come by without a pet, and just hang out! It’s a great opportunity to see one of our campus ministry buildings and meet our students and student leaders! There’s plenty of parking on the street, as well as in the Trinity lot across the street. We will have snacks, drinks, and fellowship for humans!
