Youth Service Week Concludes at Juneteenth!

June 25, 2026 by Stephanie Dolezal Leave a Comment

Just a brief while after the disciples began to follow Jesus, he took them aside and said—you all are now going to go and do the same things I have been doing. You will be the ones performing wonders, you will be the ones restoring the forsaken to dignity, you will be the ones to declare that God has good news to share, you’ll be the ones to turn the world upside down. I have to imagine they felt unprepared!

The Disciples had begun to follow Jesus because they wanted to know what amazing things he would do. Jesus called them to be his disciples to show them what amazing things they would do, to call them to transform the world.

This past week young people from St George’s followed the call of Jesus to live out their faith as disciples—to restore dignity, feed the hungry, heal a hurting world, and declare good news. Because of the hard work of our young people during Youth Service Week, we moved one step closer to realizing the vision of the Jeremiah Community as part of our shared ministry at Micah, neighbors received locally and organically grown produce harvested by our youth at the Rappahannock Education Farm, and we practiced what it means to be Beloved Community by volunteering at the 2026 Juneteenth Celebrations.

The world has need of faithful Christians, God has need of faithful Christians, and I am glad that as a church St George’s has committed to raise up empowered young people, covenanted to grow in our own faith and discipleship alongside them, and has decidedly answered the call of Jesus to turn the world upside down.

Join with our FXBG friends and denominational partners for a fourth annual Pride Service on Sunday June 28th at 4pm at Trinity Episcopal Church. The service will feature three reflections by three young adults, music by St. Georgian and newly ordained deacon the Rev. John Hager, and a festive reception across the street at The House. If you’d like to help with the reception or join the pop-up choir or with questions, please be in touch with Fr. Ethan at missioner@thehousefxbg.org.

Kitchen Update

June 1, 2026 by Stephanie Dolezal Leave a Comment

The tiger team is working to finalize pricing with all vendors and present the necessary bids, in comparison with the insurance adjustments, to the Vestry for approval. Last week, we trekked to Richmond to price out a three-bowl commercial sink, a handwashing station, and some stainless countertop tables. We have supplied sink dimensions and locations to the cabinetry designer and expect the final design and estimate very soon.

Next steps:

  • Review estimates for new flooring, plumbing nee ds, and cabinetry, then work with finance/vestry to put agreements in motion.
  • Sydnor wood floor: We will continue to monitor the floor with fans running to expedite drying, and the historic hardwood to reform its flat shape. According to experts, this could take several months, but the insurance company will hold our claim open, should the wood flooring need to be replaced.

Parish Picnic at Hurkamp Park – May 31

April 27, 2026 by Stephanie Dolezal Leave a Comment

You are invited to our annual Parish Picnic at Hurkamp Park on Sunday, May 31.  Our 10 am worship service will take place outdoors at Hurkamp Park ( at the corner of George and Prince Edward Streets), followed by our annual Parish Picnic.  We are relying on most people to bring their own chairs or blankets to sit on! Our Fellowship commission will provide a few canopies for shade and a few chairs if you forget. If you are able, please bring a potluck dish to share at the picnic and your own utensils/plates/napkins. Our fellowship team will provide drinks and fried chicken for all and some paper products will be available. Please note this service will not be livestreamed.
