St. George’s Celebrates the Faulkners – May 3

April 27, 2026 by Stephanie Dolezal Leave a Comment

When: Sunday May 3, 2 – 4 pm

Where: St. George’s Nave with Reception to Follow in Faulkner Hall

The 27th Rector of St. George’s, the Rev. Joe Hensley, invites you to celebrate the legacy of the 24th Rector, the Rev. Tom Faulkner and his wife, Mary, who served St. George’s for 30+ years and made an especially big impact on young people all over Fredericksburg.

Their daughter, Ann Faulkner Ridgeway, will share some memories of her parents and reflections on their values which have been passed on to future generations.

The Rev. Charles Sydnor, who served as Associate Rector with Rev. Faulkner and succeeded him as Rector, will discuss his experiences working with the Faulkners.

Our St. George’s History Committee will offer some historic context. There will be an opportunity for questions and comments after our speakers.

A reception follows with a blessing of newly restored Faulkner Hall, part of our Open to All in Love capital project.

We hope you can join us for the time of celebration, reflection, and fellowship.

The Peacemakers in Concert at St. George’s: April 19, 3pm

April 2, 2025 by Stephanie Dolezal Leave a Comment

St. George’s Episcopal Church will offer a free concert on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 3 pm, featuring The Peacemakers.
The Peacemakers are a musical duo featuring Jackie (guitar and vocals) and Eddie (guitar, violin and vocals).  Together they share their renditions of world music and modern folk tunes with both covers and original songs.  They create a harmony that is only obtainable by musicians with a true connection, both with each other and their audience. The talent and warmth generated by Eddie and Jackie, along with their musical styling, signature tempo changes, blue notes, and crunchy chords, make for a truly captivating performance. The Sunday afternoon concert is free with donations accepted at the door.

Known for its lush acoustics and welcoming atmosphere, St. George’s offers a year-round concert series showcasing both local and nationally recognized artists. This performance promises an afternoon of “beautiful music in a beautiful space,” continuing the church’s tradition of musical excellence. Admission is free, with donations gratefully accepted at the door to support our music and ministry at St. George’s.

St. George’s Episcopal Church is a vibrant and inclusive spiritual community. “No matter who you are, whom you love, or where you’ve been, there’s a place for you here,” says the church’s leadership. With a commitment to service, justice, and peace, St. George’s welcomes all to experience its diverse worship and music offerings.

Ash Wednesday and Lent 2025

February 25, 2025 by Stephanie Dolezal Leave a Comment

An Invitation to a Holy Lent

from the Book of Common Prayer, p. 264

Dear People of God: The first Christians observed with great devotion the days of our Lord’s passion and resurrection, and it became the custom of the Church to prepare for them by a season of penitence and fasting. Thereby, the whole congregation was put in mind of the message of pardon and absolution set forth in the Gospel of our Savior, and of the need which all Christians continually have to renew their repentance and faith. I invite you, therefore, in the name of the Church, to the observance of a holy Lent, by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God’s holy Word. Lent is a season of preparation for the joy of the resurrection of Jesus at Easter. Just as we as Christians are invited to observe a Holy Lent, we invite you to journey with us in community during this sacred time of reflection and renewal. While some may associate the time of Lent with penitence, it is also a time of deepening our connection with God. It is a time we intentionally open ourselves us to God as we patiently wait for the blessings of Easter.

Ash Wednesday – March 5

We mark the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. The Ashes we receive on our foreheads remind us that we are “dust and to dust we shall return”. They are a solemn and comforting reminder that there are other pilgrims with us on this journey.

St. George’s will hold services at the following times:

  • 7:00 am: (no Eucharist)
  • 12:00 noon: (Holy Eucharist)
  • 4:30 pm: (intended for children and families but open to all)
  • 7:00 pm: (Holy Eucharist)

The invitation to receive ashes on the forehead as a sign of humility and mortality will be offered at each service.

Wednesdays in Lent:

3/12, 3/19, 3/26, 4/2, 4/9, 4/16 : Noon Worship
12 pm Holy Eucharist with Prayers for Healing

Sundays in Lent
