Harry Wilson in Concert

Harry WilsonSt. George’s Episcopal Church will offer a free concert by local vibraphonist Harry Wilson with the St. George Jazz Ensemble, on Sunday, March 19 at 3 pm. The concert is part of the church’s Chamber Concert Series and features a program of Jazz Standards.

Harry Wilson is a jazz musician and has been a fixture in the Fredericksburg, VA jazz scene for the last 30 years and is still going strong. He brings a wealth of expertise and knowledge to the jazz world as the bandleader of the Harry Wilson Quartet. He has recorded and played with the Sun Ra Arkestra and played in just about every club and restaurant in the DC Metro area. Harry’s vibraphone playing forges a recognizable sound that can be enjoyed by even a novice looking to find their way into the genre.

The concert is free with donations accepted at the door. Masks are not required but recommended.

Free Jazz Concert at St. George’s

St. George’s Episcopal Church will offer a free Chamber Concert on Sunday, November 20 at 3 pm. The concert is part of the church’s Chamber Concert Series and features The St. George’s Voices.

The St. George Voices offer a diverse mix of acapella and vocal jazz for an afternoon of music you won’t want to miss. The concert includes works by Orlandus Lassus, Matt Harris, and Duke Ellington.

The concert is free with donations accepted at the door. Masks are not required but recommended.

Free Jazz Concert at St. George’s

Jazz ConcertThe St. George Voices and the St. George Jazz Ensemble will perform a free concert at St. George’s Episcopal Church on Sunday, February 20 at 3 pm. The concert is part of the church’s Chamber Concert Series and features St. George’s musicians.

This afternoon concert features well-known hits by Duke Ellington, Henry Mancini, Peter Eldridge, and more. Jazz arrangements of pieces by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Burton Lane, and Frank Loesser round out this eclectic blend of vocal and instrumental jazz.

The concert is free with donations accepted at the door. Masks are required for all over the age of 2 – vaccinated and unvaccinated. Seating will be staggered to observe social distancing.

St. George’s Offers Haiti Benefit Concerts on New Year’s Eve

St. George’s Episcopal Church will offer New Year’s Eve Concerts to benefit the Notre Dame Parish and School in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The evening begins with an organ concert by the organists of St. George’s at 8:30 pm, followed by the best in jazz, funk, and Latin jazz with St. George’s Jazz Ensemble at 10 pm.

Admission is free with donations accepted at the door. All proceeds help support the 383 schoolchildren of the Notre Dame Parish and School with food, clothing, supplies, and medical care.

Peter and Will Anderson Jazz Trio to Perform in Concert at St. George’s

St. George’s Episcopal Church will host the Peter and Will Anderson Jazz Trio on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. as part of the church’s Concert Series. Selections for the concert will include music for clarinet, saxophone, and guitar.

Peter and Will Anderson are one of the most extraordinary set of brothers performing music today. Known for their unique renditions of classic jazz songs and innovative original music, they hail from Washington, DC, but moved to New York City to attend Juilliard. Peter and Will have performed with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Village Vanguard Orchestra, Jimmy Heath Big Band, Wycliffe Gordon, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Paquito D’Rivera, Kenny Barron, Bob Wilber, Albert “Tootie” Heath, live on Garrison Keillor’s Prairie Home Companion, and are featured on the 2014 Grammy Winning Soundtrack of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire with Vince Giordano’s Nighthawks.

Peter and Will’s debut release from 2012, Correspondence, features Kenny Barron and was listed in Vanity Fair magazine alongside Miles Davis in “Four New Releases to Make You Love Jazz.”  The Washington Post called their music, “imaginatively unfolding in ways that consistently bring a fresh perspective to classic jazz.”
