Storytelling and Sharing: X Thomas

October 28, 2025 by Stephanie Dolezal 1 Comment

Hi all! X here, and I’m so happy to have a chance to share my love for the church and our St. George’s family here 🙂 From the moment we stepped on the campus a few years back, we’ve been met with nothing but open arms and kindness, and my family of 5 have felt warmly welcomed from the start. I have never been particularly religious or had strong ties to a church community before, but there’s something about St. George’s that just draws you in and makes you WANT to be more involved.

Originally drawn to the wonderful preschool here which I’m honored to be a board member of now, we’ve since become active church goers again, gotten more involved in the youth group and formation, joined fascinating committees like the History Committee! (shout out to Cindy!), and most especially, started participating in all the incredible ministries St. George’s offers to our community. In fact, in all my years around religion, or any organization for that matter, I have never had so many opportunities to serve!

It has even inspired me to create my own ministry this year, giving out free clothes and essentials to anyone who needs them – no questions asked. In just a handful of months we’ve given away over 25,000 items in conjunction with The Table and our Monday night Community Dinners, and fortunately/unfortunately there’s no sign of it slowing down. It’s been an incredibly fulfilling project to take on, and has gotten me closer to not only those we serve in the area, but to God as well. I literally wake up every single morning and say to God, “I don’t know what you have planned for me today, but I will do my best to be ready for it!” Lol… And of course time and time again I am surprised with how it always comes together in the end 🙂

This has probably been the greatest takeaway so far since coming to St. George’s – trusting, and being more open to the Lord, in the same way I am with loved ones around me. It has taken me a while to get to this point – and I have much more growing to do! – but wow, what a gift that St. George’s offers us every single day: the *opportunity* to grow and learn in a safe and warm environment. We have a truly special community here, and I am beyond proud to be a part of it. Thank you for showing my family so much kindness over the years, and I look forward to seeing you around church!

-X

Public Notice

April 23, 2025 by St. George's 2 Comments

Quatrefoil_WideSt. George’s will host a public meeting May 7, 2025 at 5.30 pm in the nave to inform the parish and community about our projects to build an accessibility ramp and a columbarium and how we are caring for our historic graveyard in the midst of construction. This meeting is part of how we are working with the Virginia Department of Historic Resources and Dovetail Cultural Resources as we show respect for our ancestors and past while addressing the needs of the present.

Below is the full public notice as well as information on how to provide comments on this project. A PDF download link is also included below.

Public Notice of Intent to Relocate Interments within the St. George’s Episcopal Church Cemetery in Fredericksburg, Virginia

  1. APPLICANT:
    St. George’s Episcopal Church
    905 Princess Anne Street
    Fredericksburg, Virginia 22401
  2. PROPOSED WORK AND NEED FOR RELOCATION: The applicant proposes to perform three modifications to the church property located at 905 Princess Anne Street (GPIN #7789-14-3959) in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Proposed improvements include a handicapped access ramp, a new columbarium, and a walkway railing installation. All will take place within the Church cemetery, which contains numerous burials dating to the eighteenth and nineteenth century; some burials are marked with headstones and others are not. It is believed that approximately 16 burials are located in the improvement areas.

The Applicant has determined that disturbance of the cemetery cannot be avoided due to necessary work on the parcel to accommodate the improvements. Pursuant to the requirements of VA Code §10.1-2305, the Applicant intends to apply for a burial permit through the Virginia Department of Historic Resources (DHR) to allow the archaeological excavation and relocation of the aforementioned burials within the footprint of the ramp, columbarium, and railing. A copy of the completed application may be requested from DHR.

The exhumed human remains and funerary objects will be temporarily curated in a secure location at Dovetail Cultural Resource Group (a Mead & Hunt company) located in the City of Fredericksburg and will be respectfully reburied in an alternative location within the St. George’s Episcopal Church Cemetery, unless otherwise requested by interested parties.

The Peacemakers in Concert at St. George’s: April 19, 3pm

April 2, 2025 by Stephanie Dolezal Leave a Comment

St. George’s Episcopal Church will offer a free concert on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 3 pm, featuring The Peacemakers.
The Peacemakers are a musical duo featuring Jackie (guitar and vocals) and Eddie (guitar, violin and vocals).  Together they share their renditions of world music and modern folk tunes with both covers and original songs.  They create a harmony that is only obtainable by musicians with a true connection, both with each other and their audience. The talent and warmth generated by Eddie and Jackie, along with their musical styling, signature tempo changes, blue notes, and crunchy chords, make for a truly captivating performance. The Sunday afternoon concert is free with donations accepted at the door.

Known for its lush acoustics and welcoming atmosphere, St. George’s offers a year-round concert series showcasing both local and nationally recognized artists. This performance promises an afternoon of “beautiful music in a beautiful space,” continuing the church’s tradition of musical excellence. Admission is free, with donations gratefully accepted at the door to support our music and ministry at St. George’s.

St. George’s Episcopal Church is a vibrant and inclusive spiritual community. “No matter who you are, whom you love, or where you’ve been, there’s a place for you here,” says the church’s leadership. With a commitment to service, justice, and peace, St. George’s welcomes all to experience its diverse worship and music offerings.

For more information about the concert or the church’s music series, please contact (540) 373-4133 or email music@stgeorgesepiscopal.net. Visit www.stgeorgesepiscopal.net/music/concerts to learn more.
