Packs for the People

November 16, 2017 by St. George's Leave a Comment

The Youth of St. George’s are collecting backpacks to donate to Micah Ecumenical Ministries that will be distributed to the area’s homeless community.  We will be collecting cash donations and new or gently used backpacks, Nov. 19 – Dec. 3.  Backpack donations can be left in the Narthex and monetary donations can be given to Rev. Gay or made out to St. George’s Episcopal with “Youth Service Project” in the memo field and mailed to the church, or placed into the offering plate during service.

Parish Youth Ministries Senior High Weekend

October 19, 2017 by St. George's Leave a Comment

Registration is now open for the Parish Youth Ministries (PYM) Senior High Weekend, Nov. 3-5, 2017, at Shrine Mont. This is a Diocese of Virginia event and all St. George’s Youth grades 9-12 are invited to attend. The cost of the event is $150 and includes housing, meals, all programs and activities, and a T-shirt. Scholarships are available. To register, download the registration packet here  (includes a schedule of events and what to expect) and return to Emily or Gay in the church office.  Here are some folks who are really excited about the upcoming weekend:

The Rev. Connor Gwin

A note from the organizers: “The committee has been very active planning and getting organized for our first retreat and we’re really excited about everything lined up including our keynote speaker this year, Connor Gwin!

Connor is no stranger to our Diocese and served our camps as staff chaplain several summers ago. He also has extensive camp and youth experience (Diocese of SWVA & Kanuga) and really knows the nature of our group well. We’re very excited to have him back on the mountain!”

Rite 13 Class Starts Oct. 1

September 28, 2017 by St. George's Leave a Comment

Why are humans such an important part of God’s creation?

What does it mean to us that we are created in the image of God?

What makes us so wonderfully and fearfully made?

How does God call God’s people into God’s work in the world?

Why does God search us out?

What does it mean to be known by God?

Pondering these questions is part of our Rite 13 program.  Our fall Rite 13 class is Sunday mornings October 1 – November 12, 2017 in the Elsie Lewis Room next to our nursery at 10 a.m. culminating in the Rite 13 liturgy at the 9 a.m. service on November 19. Parent’s information meeting is this Sunday, October 1 at 10 a.m. on the youth floor in the small classroom. Children who are 14 and have not participated in a Rite 13 liturgy are invited to attend as well as all youth who are or will be 13 by May 2018.  For more information contact Gay at 540-273-8794 or gay.rahn@stgeorgesepiscopal.net.
