Lent 2022

February 23, 2022 by St. George's Leave a Comment

Lent_Wide

The Theme of Lent is Lent.

When we were planning our program for this year, we heard from many folks who were new to the Church or new to the church calendar asking “what is Lent about? What’s it for?” That made us think: what if the theme of Lent is…Lent?

In the Ash Wednesday liturgy, we are invited to an intentional season of prayer, reading and meditating on God’s holy Word, self-examination and repentance, fasting, and self-denial. In his Gospel teaching, Jesus also reminds his followers of the importance of giving alms and sharing with others. This focused season re-centers our lives around our relationship with God and reminds us what this Church thing is all about.

We hope this brochure will give you a starting point for wondering how God might be calling you into this season. It’s been a few years since we’ve had a “normal” Lent, so we’re all learning all over again what it means. Let the Spirit guide you.

We have a number of activities planned to connect with our Children (Pre-K – 5th grade) and Youth (6th – 12th grade) from September 27 – Christmas. Sign your child or youth up today!

Children’s Formation

For our children in Pre-K – 5th Grade, we will offer online formation. In lieu of in-person formation, St. George’s will be offering pre-recorded formational videos each week that will invite children to worship and explore our traditions. We will also incorporate activities for different age levels, and hope to provide opportunities for in-person gathering this Fall. Sign your child up here.

Youth Formation and Youth Group

In lieu of our normal in-person gathering at church, St. George’s will be inviting youth grades 6 – 12 into a deeper discussion on topics that inform our faith. Grades 6 – 8 will meet online on Sundays from 5 – 6 pm and grades 9 – 12 from 6 – 7 pm. The first 6-week conversation will explore working for justice for all in our world. The second 6-weeks will focus on environmental stewardship and caring for God’s creation. We also plan to offer opportunities for in-person, distanced gatherings throughout the Fall. Sign your youth up here.

For more information please contact Hecti Musa.

Join the 300th Anniversary Bible Reading Challenge

March 31, 2020 by St. George's Leave a Comment

As part of our 300th Anniversary celebrations, our rector, Joe Hensley is challenging us to read the whole Bible by May 1, 2021 to ground our 300th celebration in faith. It is not too late to join! We have a suggested reading program (analog or digital) so that we can do this together (over 90 St. Georgians participating with new people still joining).

A weekly email from Rev. Joe provides encouragement and guidance for the readings. And anyone with questions is invited to attend our adult formation session (held virtually) on Sundays at 10 am. You can watch via Zoom Conference Call. Visit https://zoom.us/j/392738239 or dial 929.205.6099 and enter the meeting ID: 392 738 239.

Contact Joe Hensley if you are interested in participating.

Click here for a pdf of the reading schedule for the year.
