Epiphany Service and Party

December 21, 2016 by St. George's Leave a Comment

January 6, 2017, 7 p.m., St. George’s Nave and Sydnor Hall

A festival worship service in the church followed by a party downstairs in Sydnor Hall with heavy hor d’oeuvres (and maybe some dancing!) to celebrate the Epiphany, the revealing of Jesus to the magi from the east by the guiding of a star. Along the way, we will bless a married couple and gaze one more time upon the holy family crèche as we hear a last Christmas anthem from our Compline choir. Nursery available. All ages welcome.

Christmas Pageant Information

December 14, 2016 by St. George's Leave a Comment

2015 pageantOur thanks to all the families participating in our pageant this year. This post includes rehearsal and performance information.

Rehearsal information

Rehearsal is Sat., Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. We will start in Sydnor Hall to choose costumes, and then move up to the Nave to do a couple of run-throughs.

Due to the sizes of our costumes and props, some roles are reserved for older children.

  • Animals, angels, and little stars: All ages
  • Shepherds: Kindergarten and up
  • Prophets: 2nd grade and up
  • Magi, trees and big stars: 3rd grade and up

If your very young child needs you with them, we do have some adult-sized angel costumes you can wear. We’ve even had a papa sheep before!

Children will choose their costumes at the rehearsal. The costumes are clean but may be a bit musty from storage. If the items seem washable, please launder before Christmas Eve. The children will be wearing their costumes over their Christmas finery, so it might be a good idea to avoid heavy sweaters.

Performance information

The pageant is held on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, at the 4 p.m. service. Please bring your little thespians to Sydnor Hall (the George St. entrance) no later than 3:15 p.m., so that everyone can get costumed and settled beforehand. Visiting children and kids who missed the rehearsal are welcome to grab a costume and join the fun.

After the service, children will join their families to finish the service. Costumes can be returned in Sydnor Hall, after church.

Thank you so much for helping our children keep Christ in Christmas!

–Miss Robin & Miss Laura

December 6, 2016 by St. George's Leave a Comment

On Dec. 4, 2016, the parish of St. George’s had its annual meeting and elected four new members of the vestry.  Our rector, Joe Hensley, presented the following slides and video presentation —  a recap of 2016 and a peek into our future.

Welcoming Four New Vestry Members

December 5, 2016 by St. George's Leave a Comment

Russ Carter
Pamela Asamoah
Joyce Steele
Marilyn Farrington

On Sunday, Dec. 4, St. George’s elected four new vestry members for a three-year term (2017-2019): Pamela Asamoah, Russell Carter, Marilyn Farrington, and Joyce Steele. We also wish to thank the four candidates who were not elected, Ronda Henderson, TJ Kneale, Hector Musa, and Tres Seaver, for their willingness to serve. As I mentioned at the annual meeting, this was a discernment process, not a contest. We have four persons who have been called to serve on the vestry, but all the candidates brought valuable gifts. We will continue to discern how all our members are called to leadership in and beyond the parish. The new vestry members will begin their duties at the December 14 vestry meeting. May God bless them in their ministry.

–The Rev. Joe Hensley
