The Community Dinner is ON for 5  p.m.
AA will meet in Sydnor Hall at 7 p.m.
The Environmental Stewardship Group meeting for this evening is cancelled.
The Worship and Music Commission meeting for this evening is cancelled.

The Table will not be open on Tuesday, Jan. 26.

January 23, 2016 by St. George's Leave a Comment

On Sunday, Jan. 24, there will be a Holy Eucharist, Rite II at 11 o’clock at St. George’s Episcopal Church, Fredericksburg, VA, for those who feel they can make it to church safely. Nursery will be open but not staffed.

All other services and activities for Sunday are cancelled. Please do not feel any pressure to come to church or to take any unnecessary risks to get here, even if you are signed up to serve in some capacity. Rector’s statement on the Primates Meeting

January 17, 2016 by St. George's Leave a Comment

The decision by Anglican Primates this week to temporarily suspend The Episcopal Church from some aspects of the Anglican Communion’s ministry has raised questions about how this affects our parish. I encourage everyone to learn more and to see the responses from our diocese and our Presiding Bishop. This decision by international leaders does not have authority to change our national, diocesan, or parish policies and practices. St. George’s remains an open and welcoming house of prayer for all persons. The Episcopal Church will eventually decide how, as a larger body, to respond. In the meantime, please help spread the word that the headlines in the news do not signal a change at St. George’s. We will continue to live into the proposed changes that provide for marriage equality (which occasioned the suspension) and discuss the faithful reasons for these changes. We will also continue to pray with our partners in ministry around the world about how, in God’s name, we live together in holy communion. I know the announcement has evoked mixed responses among our members who have a variety of views on the issue of marriage and inclusiveness. For some, this announcement evokes genuine pain and frustration, and we need to be gentle with each other. I invite us to continue in compassionate dialogue, bearing witness to the love of God in Christ.

Diocese of Virginia: Understanding the Outcome of the Primates Meeting

Presiding Bishop statement: “We are part of the Jesus Movement, and the cause of God’s love in this world can never stop and will never be defeated.”

The Five Marks of Mission

January 6, 2016 by St. George's Leave a Comment

We do not often think of ourselves as a “missionary” church, but we are! Come explore the “5 Marks of Mission” as named by The Episcopal Church and worldwide Anglican Communion, and adopted by the General Convention in 2009:

  • To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom (Tell)
  • To teach, baptize and nurture new believers (Teach)
  • To respond to human need by loving service (Go)
  • To seek to transform unjust structures of society (Transform)
  • To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth (Renew)

We’ll explore how we are living out this mission at St. George’s and imagine new possibilities as well. Sundays, 10 a.m., Sydnor Hall, throughout the month of January 2016.
