August 3, 2016 by St. George's Leave a Comment

Join us on August 25 at 6:30 p.m. in Sydnor Hall for this offering from Academy Award-nominated director Richard E. Robbins. “Girl Rising” journeys around the globe to witness the strength of the human spirit and the power of education to change the world. Viewers get to know nine unforgettable girls living in the developing world: ordinary girls who confront tremendous challenges and overcome nearly impossible odds to pursue their dreams. Prize-winning authors put the girls’ remarkable stories into words, and renowned actors give them voice.

Join us on July 28 at 6:30 p.m. in Sydnor Hall for “Happy,” a documentary on what really makes people happy. Filmmaker Roko Belic blends cutting-edge scientific research with fascinating human stories collected from around the world to explore the secrets behind the emotion. Volunteer Opportunities at The Table

April 29, 2016 by St. George's Leave a Comment

We have a number of needs and opportunities with The Table at St. George’s right now. For information, contact outreach@stgeorgesepiscopal.net.

  • Meet the farm truck on Sunday afternoons – They generally arrive at the George St. entrance of St. George’s around 3 p.m. — specific arrival depends on I-95 traffic.  We need some muscle to move 50-pound crates, plus light work of checking in what we receive.
  • VA’s Health Insurance Programs for Children & Pregnant Women – There is a free workshop on Thursday, May 12, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Fick Conference Center – Carl D. Silver Health Center Bldg.  Learn how to sign people up for these programs.  Great addition to our SNAP signups.
  • SNAP – There are still classes in May at the Food Bank for anyone interested in learning how to sign up people for SNAP.  The Food Bank is willing to come to St. George’s to do a training session, so let us know if you are interested.
  • Summer Feeding Programs with the Food Bank – They are looking for people for a feeding site at Spotswood Elementary.  Training sessions for food prep, site support/monitor at the Food Bank.  Contact us if you are interested.

Community Dinners

April 11, 2016 by St. George's Leave a Comment

12112011_10204927970774709_3002446506604826569_nWe need volunteers!

Community dinners, organized by Micah Ecumenical Ministries, provide free meals for the community almost every night of the year.  There is a community dinner at St. George’s every Monday in Sydnor Hall. Our congregation provides food, and service for the third and fourth Mondays of the month. This involves everything from cooking the meals to serving, to washing dishes, to mopping floors.  Those who serve in this community find the work extraordinarily rewarding. For more information, please contact Outreach.
