Pastoral Care

Request Prayer Here Sign-up to Receive Weekly Parish Prayer List

Pastoral Care at St. George’s is a shared ministry of the clergy and parishioners. By walking with each other through times of joy and times of sorrow, we share the love of Christ with all. If you need support or encouragement, please consider reaching out to one of our pastoral care ministries listed below.

Clergy Care

Please contact the clergy in times of urgent need such as serious illness, sudden loss, or death via the pastoral care on-call phone (540-361-8573). To make an appointment, contact clergy directly by email or phone. Clergy can meet individually or in small groups to offer listening, prayer, and counsel concerning spiritual care, planning for end of life, financial challenges, health concerns, and relationships.

Lay Eucharistic Visitors (LEV)

Lay Eucharistic Visitors  make short visits to homebound parishioners to share in the Eucharist, with observance of practices to ensure safety of all involved. If you are interested in serving or in receiving a visit, please contact the office or clergy. Contact the church office if you are interested in participating in this ministry.

One Body Response Team (OBRT)

The members of this team care for those in our community by providing cards, prayers, home visits, meals, or offering occasional transportation needs. To sign up as a recipient of OBRT, please contact the office or clergy. Contact the church office if you are interested in participating in this ministry. Participants serve on a team every seven weeks and respond as they are able to requests, without pressure or expectation.

Prayer Requests and Lists

Prayer is powerful as we are more deeply connected to God and each other. We encourage anyone to request prayer, privately or publicly. To request prayer, contact us through the request form online or at the church office, letting us know whether you prefer public or private prayer. Our public prayer list is printed in the service bulletin each week and circulated via email to those who request it. Private prayer requests are sent to clergy and our prayer ministry group. We have a prayer board in the church nave where anyone can write a request on paper that is provided and pin it to the board. Those prayers are read aloud each Wednesday as part of our noon service.

Prayer Group and Prayer Chain

The prayer group prays on 2nd and 4th Thursdays at the church. They pray for those on our prayer lists and any other requests received. The Prayer Chain is an email network that shares prayer requests, including urgent needs. To be added to the Prayer List or the Prayer Chain as a prayer chain minister or if you have a request,  please contact the office or clergy. Contact the church office if you are interested in participating in this ministry.

Personal Prayer Ministry

Personal prayer ministers respond to the needs of parishioners who request prayer by listening and providing intercessory prayer, mostly during services. You may also make prayer requests online. You can also contact the church office or clergy to request intercessory prayer. Contact the church office if you are interested in participating in this ministry.

Prayer Shawls

These ministry teams provide hand-made knitted prayer shawls to support members dealing with trying and significant life events. Shawls and quilts are mantles of healing and comfort. Our prayer shawl ministers pray for the recipients whenever they are making a shawl or quilt. To receive a prayer shawl or quilt, please contact the office or clergy. Contact the church office if you are interested in participating in this ministry.
