Memorial Service for Janet Fray

June 21, 2016 by St. George's 1 Comment

Your prayers and presence are invited as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and remember the life of our sister in Christ,  Janet L. Fray, who departed this life on June 18, 2016.
Janet was active at St. George’s; she was a past member of the Jazz Ensemble Choir and was an active member of the greeters ministry, one of the first smiling faces a newcomer would encounter at St. George’s on a Sunday morning.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 23, at St. George’s with a reception following. Read her complete obituary here.
Lord Jesus Christ, we commend to you our sister who was reborn by water and the Spirit in Holy Baptism. Grant that her death may recall to us your victory over death, and be an occasion for us to renew our trust in your Father’s love. Give us, we pray, the faith to follow where you have led the way; and where you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, to the ages of ages. Amen.

Thursday Movie Night – American Denial

June 17, 2016 by St. George's Leave a Comment

Join us in Sydnor Hall on Thursday, June 30 at 6:30 p.m. for American Denial, a documentary exploring the work of Swedish Nobel Laureate Gunnar Myrdal as he researched Jim Crow laws in the American South in the late 1930s. The film explores how denial, cognitive dissonance, and implicit bias persist and shape all of our lives. Co-sponsored by Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site). Eat before you come, or bring your supper and something to drink with you.  The nursery will be open for little ones, and pre-K and up can enjoy a fun flick upstairs in McGuire Hall. Save the date for movie nights on July 28 and August 25 as well. Call the church office at 540-373-4133 for more information.

Summertime – and It’s Electronic Giving Time

May 19, 2016 by St. George's Leave a Comment

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?”

—Mary Oliver, From “The Summer  Day”

If you are away from St. George’s for an extended period of time this summer, you may want to consider our electronic option for your church giving.  We can easily draft your pledge donation for any length of time. All we need is a form completed and a voided check so we can set it up.   Two  examples  follow:

  • Parishioner A  who gives monthly will be away for two weeks in June in the Key West area on business and then three weeks on a European vacation.   That’s most of June and July.   We can easily set up June and July church pledge donations to be done electronically and then “A” can resume his normal schedule in August.
  •  Parishioner B who gives weekly will be away moving children in the middle of June and then again in the 3rd week in July be at the beach. Likewise we can set up electronic transfers for those specific weeks and she can cover the other weeks with her normal church donations.

Got the picture ?  You tell us when you will be away, what specific periods to cover electronically, the amounts and then provide your checking information.  It’s one way to have more time in preparing for a busy summer and at the same time remember St. George’s.

If this fits your upcoming summer, please give Ben a call at 540-373-4133 or email ben.hicks@stgeorgesepiscopal.net. Have a great summer!
