Worship and Music

Music

What a remarkable Advent and Christmas Season!  From ‘The Last Resort’ to Thomas Pandolfi’s tribute to George Gershwin at the Chamber Music Series, we’ve had some remarkable performances.  Of course, even more remarkable were the musical offerings of our choirs and instrumentalists, which deeply enriched our worship.  Their hard work and dedication means so much to the spirit of St. George’s and our community.

But there’s more to come!

Epiphany is a wonderful season for music.  Throughout the season, our worship will be enhanced with the return of the Jazz Gloria at the 9:00 Eucharist.  The Gloria is the first movement of an entire Mass setting that John Vreeland is composing for the Jazz ensemble and choir.  Additional movements are on the way.

Worship services at St. George’s feature an eclectic blend of musical traditions supported by three choirs, our new Parsons three manual 44 rank mechanical action pipe organ, a Jazz Ensemble, a Chamber Ensemble and a Celtic Ensemble. Our music program is built around a dedicated multi-generational group of volunteer amateur and professional musicians, many of whom participate in several ensembles.

We welcome new members at all levels of experience, and offer free instruction in choral and handbell technique, music reading and improvisation.

Check the Choral and Instrumental pages on left for information on service and rehearsal times.

In addition to worship, our other music programs continue to enrich the community.  Visit out our Concerts page for upcoming offerings.  And check out the January issue of The Front Porch, our music program is highlighted on page 28.
