When the Gallagher family contacted us because they wanted to give us their piano, we were thrilled. When we asked them why they had chosen to give it to us, we were moved.
In the words of the Gallagher family, “We donated our piano to St. George’s because this is a church that would embrace our son Brendon. It is as simple and as complicated as that.”
Brendon came out to his family while he was majoring in music at the University of North Texas. The following years at the family’s church were difficult and ultimately they left the congregation.
Brendon now lives in New York City where he is pursuing a career in Opera. His family writes that Brendon has met a wonderful man and they couldn’t be happier for them both.
The Gallaghers closed their note with, “Good theology bears good fruit. I am thankful for the thoughtful theology of the Episcopal Church.”
Thank you very much to the Gallagher family for this beautiful gift and for sharing your story with us.
