UNITED THANK OFFERING: It’s a wonderful time to give thanks for God’s blessing by supporting UTO. Every penny collected from the Blue Box and envelope offerings for UTO from St. George’s is used to support local and international projects. Today is our Spring Ingathering: Please drop your blue boxes or checks (made out to St. George’s with “UTO” in the memo line) in the UTO basket during the service today.
HAITI TEAM PRAYERS: Please keep the Haiti team in your prayers as they continue their ministry in Port-Au-Prince. They will return tomorrow.
SHRINE MONT REGISTRATIONS OPEN: Shrine Mont, our annual parish weekend in the mountains, is filling up fast. Registrations continue either online or in brochures found in the narthex. Register to join the 116 people already Building Bridges Oct. 6-8.
LECTIO DIVINA: Meditative reading of scripture that leads us into prayer and action in our lives. Led by Tom Rotella. No experience necessary. Mondays, 7 p.m., Faulkner Hall.
OVER-80s LUNCHEON: On May 17, we will have a special Eucharist and luncheon honoring St. Georgians who have reached their 80th birthday. If you have received an invitation, please make sure you RSVP as soon as possible.
HABITS OF THE HEART WEEKEND: How do we have real conversations where everyone has a voice? What values and practices will help us engage constructively with people we see as “on the other side?” St. George’s invites anyone interested in healing divides for our “5 Habits of the Heart Weekend: Healing souls and communities” (May 19-21, Friday evening through Sunday morning) with John Fenner, from the Center for Courage and Renewal. Space is limited: contact clergy to sign up.
CATECHESIS TRAINING: Come learn to lead our wonderful Montessori-based program for children. Training begins this fall: Contact Carey in the office for more information.
SUMMER SERVICE SCHEDULE IS COMING: May 21 is our last Sunday with regular service schedule and Christian Education during the 10 a.m. hour for the program year. On Sunday, May 28, we will start our summer service schedule with Sunday Eucharist services at 7:45 a.m., 10 a.m., and 5:30 p.m. Compline will be held at 8 p.m. on second Sundays during the summer: June 11, July 10, and August 14. The regular service schedule and Christian Education will resume on Sept. 17.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL PLANNING: Want to help plan our Vacation Bible School program? Come find out what is going on and join the fun at a meeting May 21 at 12:30 p.m. in the Atrium. VBS is scheduled for mornings July 30-Aug. 1 with music camp to follow later in the week.
CHAMBER SERIES: May 21, 3 p.m., Nave. The St. George’s Chamber Orchestra will perform under the direction of James Kazik, playing music of Mozart, Vaughan Williams, and more. $10 admission; students and children free.
PENTECOST AND ANNUAL PARISH PICNIC: It’s a wonderful confluence of two favorite events in the church year! On Sunday, June 4, we will celebrate Pentecost with a Eucharist service in Hurkamp Park with a potluck picnic to follow. We will welcome Pere Fan from our sister parish in Haiti as our preacher, and there will be baptisms as well. Don’t forget to wear red and to bring chairs or a blanket to sit on.
HOSPITAL VISITS: If you or a loved one are in the hospital, please call the church office and let us know (540-373-4133) so that we can arrange for a clergy visit.
COMMUNICATIONS SURVEY: The Communications and Evangelism Commission seek your input on what makes St. George’s special and your feedback on the best way to reach you. Look for the Communications Survey on the Tract Rack near the door as you exit the narthex or access it from our website home page.
GLORY RIDGE YOUTH UPDATE: Our youth mission team to Glory Ridge is ready to “make work worship.” There will be several opportunities to support our team in the coming weeks. Right now, the youth are providing landscaping/yard services for a donation, led by Albert Mills, a St. Georgian and professional landscaper. Contact Albert for more info (via the office).
