2013 Lenten Weekend Speaker
Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church
Litany of Repentance, led by the Right Reverend Shannon Sherwood Johnston, Bishop of the Diocese of Virginia - an opportunity to confess the sin of slavery and seek amendment of life.
Celebration of Hope, led by the Most Reverend Katharine Jefferts Schori, the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal church - an opportunity to find hope anew through seeking and serving Christ in all people. This celebration will include a special dance of joy by children and youth of the diocese. To read more about the dance and see videos of the choregraphy click here.
Witness Walk, led by Mayor Mary Katherine Greenlaw and the Reverend Lawrence Davies, to the corner of William and Charles Streets, past the site of the former slave auction block. The walk will conclude at the corner of William and Princess Anne Streets with the unveiling and dedication of a new sculpture representing freedom and hope. The commissioned artist is former Fredericksburg resident Ayokunle Odeleye. Click here to see photos of this work in progress (photos updated regularly).
Nursery care will be available for children 3 and under from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm on Saturday for all those pre-registered. Please click here to register your child now.

Bishop Katharine's books Gathering at God's Table and The Heartbeat of God will be available for sale at all the events of the weekend. They will be $20 each and on Saturday evening, Bishop Katharine will take some time to sign them. Please look for the book sales in Sydnor Hall.

This event is free and open to the public. We are especially encouraging the Jewish and Muslim communities in the Fredericksburg area to join us. Bishop Katharine will take some time following the Public Forum to sign copies of her books.

Also free and open to the public. Following the Adult Forum, Bishop Katharine will preach and celebrate the Eucharist at our 11:00 am worship service. Please plan to join us after worship for a reception in honor of the presiding bishop in our Sydnor Hall.
