Welcome to
St. George's

The congregation
of St. George’s
Episcopal Church
invites you to
join us for worship, spiritual growth and service.
A Welcome That Spans Generations
The welcoming hand of friendship has been
extended at St. George’s since its inception in 1720. Join us for the
worship of God, the building of Christian fellowship and service to our
community. Allow us to help you find your spiritual home in this
congregation. The mission of St. George’s Church is to cultivate
and spread God’s Word in Christ through faith by honoring the dignity
and gifts of the individual; providing opportunities for spiritual
growth and renewal; and embracing the diversity of community.
We invite you to have your letter of
transfer sent from your previous Episcopal church. If you are a member
of another denomination, we invite you to have your baptismal records
sent so that you may become a baptized member of record with us. To
become a confirmed communicant, you may attend our annual Re-affirmation
classes and receive the Laying on of Hands from our Bishop at his annual
visit. Watch our newsletter for announcements about new member classes.
The ministers of this congregation are all
of its baptized members, young and old. The staff includes a
Rector, Associate Rector, Director of Outreach
Ministries, Director of Music Ministries, Director of Youth Ministries, Office Administrator, Parish
Administrator, and Sexton. The St. George’s Vestry is a 12-person
governing board. Staff and Vestry names are listed on our web pages.

Communication Commission
The mission of this commission is to
improve the ways in which we communicate with one another and with God
through the Spirit. We will be working to expand our web page, to
create a video about St. George’s for newcomers, to develop a PR
strategy to publicize St. George’s locally and in the Diocese, to
develop a talent resource bank and to investigate ways to improve our
newsletter and begin a tape ministry program.

Worship and Music Commission
“Oh worship the Lord in the beauty of
holiness...” The beauty, grace, pageantry, reverence, and grandeur of
the Episcopal Church continues to stir the hearts of its members. Our
commission is involved with the “beauty of holiness” in several ways.
Worship space, decor and layout are a primary responsibility. We also
support the Acolytes, Flower Guild, Altar Guild, Ushers, Lay Eucharistic
Ministers and Lectors/Lay Readers. And, of course, we are involved with
growing the diverse music program and all of its sonorous sounds of
inspiration. You may have your own ideas about our worship services and
if so, we would love to hear them. Call us, write us or better yet,
join us. It’s a great way to be involved with the worship life of St.
George’s.

Stewardship Commission
Stewardship is what we DO when we
say, “Lord, I believe.” Our goal: To help each of us more fully
recognize that our time, talents, and treasure are blessings from God.
We strive to help people respond to God’s many blessings by DOING
the work of God; through full participation in the mission and ministry
of our church. New members and ideas are always welcome. Come share
your energy and time with our Commission. We will all be blessed by
your gifts.

Education for Ministry
Education for Ministry (EfM) is an extension course in theology
sponsored by the School of Theology at the University of the South (an
Episcopal seminary) in Sewanee, Tennessee.
Available
globally through interested parishes like St. George's, EfM consists of
four parts, focusing sequentially on the Old Testament, New Testament,
church history, and theology. In addition to study, EfM provides the six
to twelve members with ample opportunity for discussion and personal
insight, relating theology and scripture to their daily lives. At
the conclusion of the program, graduates will have a deeper
understanding of scripture and of their faith.
